The Kingz of Berlin is Berlin and Germany’s first and biggest Drag King performance group, happy to be a part of Queerfestival 2006 in Kopenhagen.
We take the show on the road with a breathtaking drag program that has thrilled audiences in many European cities. We also offer a drag workshop for many varieties of drag and glittery freedom.
Our show incorporates different styles (life
singing, group dancing, lipsync, trash attack), our troupe combines different
types and all of us play different roles. Be it gay hairdressers, tough
leather men, lesbian drag queens, handsome heartbreakers, rolling rock
stars, Berlin chanson singers from the ‘30s, or sexy sailor boys – we
play with and bend every genre and gender. We have wit, we have grit,
we have sex appeal, and we have glamour!

Film screening, workshop and talk
What does it mean to be a 'queer artist' today? Who is celebrated and rewarded by the 'high art' world and who is not? What part does politics play in these constructions? Del LaGrace Volcano will share some of herm's latest work and facilitate a discussion of what it means to be a queer AND political.
Artist statement:
As a gender variant visual artist I access 'technologies of gender' in order to amplify rather than erase the hermaphroditic traces of my body. I name myself. A gender abolitionist. A part time gender terrorist. An intentional mutation and intersex by design, (as opposed to diagnosis), in order to distinguish my journey from the thousands of intersex individuals who have had their 'ambiguous' bodies mutilated and disfigured in a misguided attempt at 'normalization'. I believe in crossing the line as many times as it takes to build a bridge we can all walk across.
Del has produced four monographs, Love Bites, Gay Men's Press 1991, The Drag King Book (with Judith Halberstam), Serpent's Tail 1999, Sublime Mutations, Konkursbuchverlag 2000 and Sex Works, Konkursbuchverlag 2005 and has also been cited and reproduced in numerous publications, journals and books on visual art and queer and feminist theory. Del's latest short videos include, GENDER QUEER: Qu'est-ce que c'est? 2005, The Passionate Spectator 2003 and Journey Intersex 2000.

If you are a designer or an architect with a queer perspective or with an interest in the subject come to the workshop.
The goal of the workshop is to talk about:
What is "queer design and architecture", and what could it be?
How can architecture and design relate to a queer perspective?
If you like you can bring a picture of something related to "queer architecture or design", for example a project you or someone else have made, and tell about it for 2-5minutes. On the wall we will make a "mapping" of the "field" of "queer design and architecture". Your picture will be part of that.
After the workshop if you like you can go to the talkshow about "queer space" at QueerTV at Raca, Gl. kongevej. 7-10pm

Is there certain logic to queer geography? The aim for the workshop is to think through models that can change, recover, appropriate or even occupy public spaces for queer and social purposes. The Queer space is often seen as a powerless structure, that exist parallel to streets, sculptures, parks, public toilets, beaches, etc. and time-to-time gets appropriated socially into the roam of queer meaning. This workshop wants to examine these so-called “queer oases,” and their special significance, and look into the role of gender relations by the different circulation of inhabitation. The hegemony of social structures in society has frequently resulted in the filtering of social uses in the public space. This clash between perceptions of space, David Harvey writes, happens between the micro-scale of the body and the personal and the macro-scale of the global political economy. The question is if we have to become our own architects of living to sustain queer culture?
The workshop will take place as a laboratory finding new secret ways of thinking and formulating of queer experiences into the public space. We will make field trips, and talk about individual experiences, and the inherited social and historical spaces that was importance for the formation of a counter-public. We will start out by collectively map; Queer Copenhagen based on the social exchange of knowledge between the participants; visits some of those desired locations; and recover and re-inscribe new and auto-organized -ways through interventions of engaging the city.
The outcome of this process is to be collectively documented and shown at Kabine, which is a small progressive artist space located on Islands Brygge, and further publicizing is individually available through T-vlog a do it your self Television program, where you can upload from your own web based computer to broadcast direct on the local Station Tv-Tv.

We will start the first workshop with a short and overall presentation of our approach to ‘hate crime’ as a theoretical and political concept – an approach that is both characterized as feminist as well as against the heteronormative structures of society. Our point of departure is that ‘hate crimes’ understood as assault made against people who break the norms of intelligible gender- and sexual behaviour are possible only in a society where such people are generally marginalized. The hate crimes committed therefore have to be seen in relation with an analysis of a society where women as well as sexual minorities are exposed to discrimination.
The practical part consists of physical exercises, going through different
tools in self defense, such as body-language, voice-training, kicks and
punches.
Introducing different cases of ‘realistic’ situations of hate crime,
we will practice some of these tools.
We focus on creating a good and safe atmosphere, making space for as well as play and laughter, but also dealing with serious issues.
The second workshop will be a continuation of the first and we will here
focus more on aspects of the physical training. We recommend coming both
days, but it’s not a must.
Due to the physical training you should come in clothings in which you can
move freely.
During both sessions it will be possible to discuss personal experiences and considerations in relation to hate crimes, and also more general experiences of being exposed to discrimination in the public as well as the private sphere.
