Welcome to the wonderful and experimental world of Transformation - a feminist drag workshop BACKGROUND The concept of “drag” in its traditional sense is most often used about an entertainer such as a drag queen or a drag king - someone who dresses and acts away from the entertainer's own biological gender and into the opposite one (Male>Female or Female>Male). To us this definition of drag seems old and limiting. Transformation considers drag to be a whole lot more fun and important! Drag helps us to escape the set norm and to change our persona to whatever we desire, thus it is not biology that decides what drag is, but rather we ourselves! Our idea is simple but nonetheless brilliant: Together with our participants we strive to create a free zone of experimentation with the emphasis being on creativity, curiosity and our possibil ities to explore identities. HOW DOES IT HAPPEN? As a participant in our workshops you can be a total beginner or have previous experience, no matter what, you’ll be an important component and an asset to the group on the occasion. As leaders we’ll create a drag laboratory together with you, using tools such as acting, body conciousness, dragshow, queer theory, and group dynamics. As the day’s special guests, you’ll be invited and encouraged to step into our boudoir full of garnments, make-up, attitudes, wigs and much more. The workshop is divided into different parts in which the leaders as well as the participants take part. A workshop breakdown might look as follows: * Warm-up * Movements, to help you understand how your body behaves in different situations or with a different name, profession, age etc. * Make up, technical demonstrations of how t o use cosmetics to look more masculine, feminine, older, alienlike or anything else. * Styling, an opportunity to try on clothes, accessories and outfits together with make up. * Opinion/Value games, where you and/or your charachter can take a stand in several questions and situations. Norms and structures of power in society becomes visible during this stage. * Acting, playing with your new persona. * Relaxation and round-up No parts of the workshop are totally pre-set or pre-arranged. Each group decides itself which elements that will become emphasized. WHAT ABOUT AFTERWARDS? After some of our workshops we create a transaction as a continuation of the workshop. During a transaction, those who want to can bring their transformed persona, outfit and all, and go on a field trip to a café, a grocery store, a pride parade or any other place t o try out in a more normative setting. Transactions are of course optional, but usually provide a fun and appreciated way to finish off an exciting day and to apply it to the outside world. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? Anyone who is interested in drag, i.e. letting their personality or identity change a little bit or totally, can attend our workshops. We promise a safe and open atmosphere. You don't have to have any previous experience of drag. WHO ARE THE "LEADERS"? We are a broad group of leaders who use drag in different ways. Our individual experiences and educations lie within drama, gender studies, body awareness, queer theory, street theatre, fashion design, art and performance. Our different fields of knowledge are all important components in our strive to create the best possible workshop.
